Grounds can be static, meaning they do not move. Their characteristics are friction (how easily something can move across it), restitution (how far something is pushed away when it makes contact), and rotation.
Grounds can otherwise be dynamic, which possess many advanced qualities to allow it to move and be affected by gravity. Along with the properties of static ground, dynamic ground has mass (how much is is affected by gravity), fixed rotation (whether it can freely rotate or stay in its original rotation), linear damping (how easily it falls on its own), and angular damping (how easily it is rotated by other forces).
 Wood, Earth, and Grass Grounds
Wood Ground is a tan-colored ground that has a friction of 0.3 and a restitution of 0.2. It was the first ground in Transformice. It has normal properties, therefore not affecting mice or objects in any unnatural way.
Earth ground and grass ground share the same friction and restitution as wood ground. Their only differences are appearance. If the length of the Grass ground is a multiple of 40, there will be grass around the edges of the ground.
 Ice Ground
Ice ground has a friction of 0, making it slippery and unable to wall-jump on. It has a restitution of 0.2. When a mouse's starting point is on ice ground, the mouse will not be slipping on the ice. Although when moving right or left the mouse will continue to move on, because there is no friction to stop it. This also applies to physical objects present in the map.
 Trampoline Ground
Trampoline ground is purple-colored, with slightly more restitution than wood. It has a friction of 0 and a restitution of 1.2. Therefore, it gives a "bouncy" effect that sends things in the opposite direction depending on the velocity of contact.
 Lava Ground
Lava ground is a high-restitution ground which is brown colored with orange cracks. It has a friction of 0.2, and a restitution of 20. Any mouse (or object, for that matter) which touches lava ground will be sent rapidly in the opposite direction. Lava ground appears in maps 79, 80, and 84.
Due to its high restitution, lava ground often sends mice offscreen. But by jump-canceling the momentum (by holding the up arrow or "W" key when contact is made with the ground), mice can survive and proceed in maps without the help of the shaman.
 Chocolate Ground
Chocolate ground has a friction of 20 and a restitution of 0.3.
There is currently only one official/numbered map that has chocolate ground: Map 74. There are many other maps with chocolate ground, but they are user-made.
In the case of vertical chocolate ground, mice can run into the wall, and "stick" to it while running into it. This makes wall jumping very easy to do. In the case of horizontal chocolate ground, mice without cheese can run on it almost normally, just slightly slower. This is why many mice jump constantly when running on it. With cheese, mice run extremely slowly, and they must jump to advance effectively through the map.
 Sand Ground
Sand ground is yellow colored ground with a friction of 0.1 and a restitution of 0.2. Because of its low friction, it is more difficult to wall-jump than wood, grass, or earth grounds. Other than this, it possesses no other unique qualities. This causes Sand Ground to be one of the least-used grounds.
 Cloud Ground
Cloud ground was added to Transformice in update 0.147. It is white/transparent colored, and has a friction of 0.3 and a restitution of 0.2. It does not affect mice directly, as if there was nothing there at all. However, other grounds and shaman objects will collide with it. This makes it useful for building (bridge supports), but also may hinder building by blocking off routes. Originally not available in the map editor, cloud ground was added to it in update 0.158.
Maps with cloud ground tend to be a challenge for both shaman and mice. Some old vanilla maps were changed, and cloud grounds replaced solid grounds to prevent trolling.
 Water Ground
Water ground is a blue colored ground. It is unique, in that it has no adjustable settings (friction, restitution, rotation, et cetera). Next to cloud ground, it is the only ground that mice can travel through, rather than colliding with them, as this is the case with other ground.
Mice without cheese will "float" on the surface of the water, and will not stop moving as if they were on ice ground. Mice can make themselves "sink" by holding the down arrow or "S" key, but holding too long will cause the mouse to sink more than they want to, sometimes causing death. Mice with cheese will sink automatically, and cannot rise back up without the help of restitution grounds or the shaman. It is possible, but hard to accomplish, to wall jump up a vertical piece of water ground if you can go out to the side.
Shaman objects will sink or float depending on what the item is. Boards, boxes and trampolines will float, anvils and cannonballs will sink.
 Stone Ground
Stone ground is a gray-colored ground that was added to Transformice in Version 1.21, the Christmas 2011 update. It has a friction of 0.3, making it similar to wood, earth, and grass grounds. However, what sets it apart from them is its restitution of zero, which means mice cannot bounce off of it.
 Snow Ground
Snow ground is a ground that looks similar to Grass ground, only that the top is covered by snow. Like grass grounds, if the length of the ground is a multiple of 40, there will be grass around the edges of the ground. It was added to Transformice in Version 1.23, after the Christmas 2011 update. It has a friction of 0.05, making it easier to slide like ice and very hard to Wall-jump. It has a restitution of 0.1.
 Circle Ground
Circle ground is a ground that is round in shape. It was added in March 13. It has a friction of 0.3 and has a restitution of 0.2. This ground is mostly used for art in maps. It's colour can also be changed to any colour.
 Rectangle Ground
Rectangle ground is a ground that can be in any length, breath or size. It was added in March 13. It has a friction of 0.3 and has a restitution for 0.2. This ground is mostly used for art in maps. It's colour can also be changed to any colour.
